Sightseeing of Como and a taste of the typical products made in the area of Como.
Meet up with the guide in Cavour Square, in front of the Hotel Barchetta. Some information about the city and the lake will be given here and then the itinerary will start from Piazza Volta, a characteristic and animated square, where you can admire the statute of the great scientist from Como, the inventor of the cell. The tour continues through the old little streets of the historic centre inside the walls towards San Fedele Square, a tiny suggestive square which has been the throbbing heart of the town since the Roman period. After giving a glimpse to the western part of the town with its austere palaces and its calm little streets, we will reach Porta Torre and the remains of the old medieval walls. Then returning towards the lake we will pass by the apses of Saint Fedele church, along via Vittorio Emanuele, the elegant shopping street. Visit (inside and outside) of the beautiful Cathedral, started in 1396 and finished in 1770. The decoration that embellishes it can help trace the artistic history of Como.
A look at the near monuments: the Broletto, old town-hall seat, the neoclassical Sociale Theatre and Terragni Palace, built in 1932 in rationalist style, before returning to Cavour Square, the old harbour of the city before being transformed into this great square by the lake during the 19th century. At the end, we can visit the near undercover market to taste the products and specialities typical of the Como Lake area, such as mountain cheeses, local cold meats, traditionally cooked lake fish, preserves and much more. You will then be able to appreciate an unusual aperitif and get to know even better our territory and its gastronomic culture. All the specialities of this market come from zero km local producers and cannot be found in the great distribution.
