This is a spectacular route that twists and turns through terracings and olive tree groves with pleasant ups and downs between mountain and lake at 217 and 350 metres of altitude.

Along the Green Way amazing and panoramic views over the villages, the lake and the adjacent mountains come in quick succession; it’s about 11 km of an easy and within everybody’s reach old mule-track, partly paved, that often becomes a comfortable pedestrian street or a shady grassy path delimited by dry-stone walls. Along the route there are precious monuments: towers, churches, ancient farmhouses, chapels, noble palaces, villas, gardens and characteristics housing units.

All the area benefits from an enviable micro-climate that makes it possible to walk along the Green Way all the year round.

We start from the upper part of Colonno, direction North. The path at the beginning creeps in among the houses, but very soon the first olive trees appear; we shortly reach the upper part of Sala Comacina, one of the most panoramic points of the route with the beautiful Ossuccio Bay, the Comacina Island and the Lavedo Peninsula. We continue until Spurano, where there is the wonderful Romanesque church of Saint Jacob with frescoes dating back to the XI century and we can visit the medieval complex of Ospetaletto.

Once crossed the river Perlana, we pass through the old housing unit of Campo to reach the promenade by the lake in Lenno; from the square of the medieval Baptistry, we cross the State Road to catch a small alley that goes up towards Masnate and we continue on the right until Mezzegra and Saint Abbondio’s Parish church, that hosts some frescoes by Giulio Quaglio. Once crossed the historic centre with its elegant palaces from the XVIII century, we pass to the high fractions of Tremezzo, then we go down to the lake to continue along the lakeside until the peer of Cadenabbia, after seeing Villa Carlotta.

At the end of the route we can catch a public means of transport to go back to the starting point.
