In the northern part of Lake Como, on the promontory of Olgiasca in the town of Colico, the Abbey of Piona with its beautiful asymmetrical cloister and the church with an ancient dedication to Mary are a very important evidence of the romanesque style and of the work of the Cistercian Friars.
In the town of Mandello del Lario, close to the stream Meria and under the mount “Grigione”, in the sanctuary dedicated to the Holy Virgin of the River, the iconography and the interior decorations are beautiful examples of the baroque style.
In Calolziocorte, in San Martin valley on the left shore of the river Adda, the building complex of Saint Mary of Lavello, tells the story of a miracle that made the cult for Mary strong again.
